Into Thin Air - Taher Conquers the Everest Ultra

Jayanagar Jaguars is proud to celebrate the incredible feat of Taher Merchant who successfully completed the Tenzing Hillary Everest Extreme Ultra Marathon 2018 (60km) held on May 29th. Taher sets the record as the First Indian Male Finisher of the Everest Ultra!

The Everest Ultra is considered as the highest Ultramarathon event in the world. This diamond jubilee event commemorated the 65th Anniversary of the 1st successful ascent of Mt Everest by Hillary & Tenzing. Starting at the Everest Base camp (5356 metres), the course covers five high Himayalan passes, taking the runners through some of the tallest Glaciers, and includes the highest uphill run portion in the world.

Taher finished this rugged 60km high altitude course in 19:15:10, but that is not the whole story… What makes the feat truly inspiring is the intense amount of training that went into it. He trained across a variety of terrains such as multiple Nandi Hills runs, to prepare himself for the ordeal ahead, clocking a staggering 1100+ Kms over the last 10 weeks!

We congratulate Taher for his awesome achievement and we hope he continues his running adventures, inspiring all of us!

Now that you are all inspired by his feat, it’s time to think about your next challenge. Brace yourself for the next season and choose the programme for the race you want to conquer!

Happy Running!
